Being an Irish is not just about celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by wearing some green. It is about art and literature, song and music and dance. It is about a rich culture and determined people who constructed amazing structures before the Egyptians built the pyramids and saved Christianity for the world.
Being Irish-American is about being one of over 40 million who claim Irish lineage. It is about being part of a significant history of the United States, of Ireland herself and of the world. Being Irish-American in Washington, DC brings together unique cultures and traditions imported from Ireland and from Irish America. Our history here began with our Nations’ Founding Fathers and continued with constant waves of immigrants from Ireland whose blood, sweat and lives built, and fought for our growing city and nation.
Hill Irish is a new networking organization that is engaging current and former congressional staff of Irish descent. We are a non-partisan, non-political, non-denominational, non-profit has two goals in mind:
- Provide a non-partisan environment for social activity and networking (something that has been missing on the Hill for some time)
- Inform and educate those who want to learn about their Irishness and those who want to engage more in the Irish American community in Washington and elsewhere. Be as Irish as you want to be.
Our plan is to have three or four large networking events per year:
- St. Patrick’s Day Social
- A Summer Solstice Social
- A Winter Solstice Social around Christmas
We will also have events based on the interest of our membership, such as instructive seminars on Irish genealogy or Irish and Irish-American history. Keep an eye on our Events Calendar for specific events and if you sign up for Membership we will include you in regular e-mails and mailings of our exclusive events as well as events from Irish groups throughout the Washington, DC area.
